World Surf League QS3000
Praia de fisica, Santa Cruz, Portugal
25 - 30 April, 2017

This event is Stop No.5 on the European Qualifying Series

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 April, 2017 - The Pro Santa Cruz pres. by Oakley is on standby. A lay day has been called on the opening day of the event’s waiting period due to the lack of contestable conditions at Praia de Vigia.

This event is Stop No.5 on the European Qualifying Series and the last event of the Spring QS leg on the Old Continent. Surfers come prepared to Santa Cruz, having previously competed in Martinique, Caparica and finally Zarautz last week.

The QS3,000 in Santa Cruz will showcase some of the World’s best surfers as three current Championship Tour competitors have signed up for the event, Joan Duru (FRA), Kanoa Igarashi (USA) and Frederico Morais (PRT). When competition commences, they will be facing some of the hungriest QS crowd who are actively trying to claim their own spot within the Elite Top 34.

“We took the time to wait and see the evolution throughout the day as a potential new swell could have showed up in time to run some heats today,” Nuno Trigo, WSL Europe head judge stated. “Unfortunately conditions have remained incontestable and we’ll have to come back tomorrow to reassess. The outlook for the rest of the week is positive and we hope to see some good waves and even better performances as soon as tomorrow hopefully.”

Event officials have called surfers at 6:45 a.m Wednesday for a potential early start of competition on Day 2.
